Two thoughts while gardening

20 May

Today, I started planting all the flowers and plants I bought the other day – as it finally stopped raining and I was actually at home!

As I dug a hole near the end of the new flower bed – which until last year, was where a tree had been – I had a sudden realization and started praying that prayer only a parent can pray – “Oh God, please don’t let me dig up a deceased hamster.”

God answered that prayer.

I also learned that you should not let the boy with ADHD spread the mulch.  I’m just happy he didn’t step on a plant.  But he nearly buried the lavender and did halfway bury the columbine (which luckily survived) with the mulch.  The stuff I told him not to get too near the plants.  In his defense, the mulch wasn’t near the plants as he shook it from four feet above.

I was still a good mom and told him that he did a nice job.  He didn’t get any in the grass, he kept it all in the flowerbed, therefore, he did a good job.

Yesterday was Maura’s birthday/Miriam’s big debut as a singer via the school Talent Show.  Maura had a great day, had lots of fun, absolutely loved the Jessie doll from Toy Story that I finally tracked down, and gorged herself with ice cream cake.  Miriam did fabulously at the Talent Show – she sang “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift – even though she claimed to be scared beforehand and afterwards did totally turn bright red as she hugged me.  I’ve never seen her blush so much!  You couldn’t tell while she was on stage.

Hi Phoebe! I am currently 6 months pregnant with a little girl and we have chosen to call our little girl Phoebe, therefore I have typed Phoebe Holmes into Google (just to see if there was anyone cool with the same name as out little girl) and I came across your gem of a site! I have just read your first three blogs and they are great. Your children sound lovely! I will read your blog again in the future. Louise from Peterborough, UK (quite near London). 🙂

Congrats on your baby girl! I will say, I love hearing about people using the name Phoebe. It seems to be a lot more popular now (as in I know a handful of people who have named their daughters that.) I didn’t meet another Phoebe until I was in my 20’s!
