Music Monday – Ordinary Day

I’ve got a smile on my face and I’ve got four walls around me…

An old college mate was posting Great Big Sea songs on Facebook (have I mentioned Great Big Sea here before?  lol!)  I will admit, I got geeked at someone I know who also knows GBS and feels the love of them.  She posted “Ordinary Day”, which I realized I have not shared yet.  Which is amazing since it is one of my absolute favorite songs of all times.  Right up there with U2’s “Where the Streets Have No Name”, Natalie Merchant’s “Wonder”, and of course, Don McLean’s “American Pie”.

So what makes this song so special?  It’s sort of my life’s mantra, words I need to hear when life gets rough…which is a lot of the time.  But what others consider rough, I consider ordinary life  As the song says, it’s all a state of mind.  It also reminds me of Maura, where it says “let them say what they want, but she won’t stop trying…”  My girl never gives up – it doesn’t occur to her that she could.  And the last verse –

In this beautiful life, there’s always some sorrow

It’s a double-edged knife, but there’s always tomorrow

It’s up to you now if you sink or swim

Just keep the faith and your ship will come in

It’s not so bad…

No, it’s not so bad.  And in a week and two days, Maura and I will be front row, watching them play live.  And if they should play this song, as they have in the past, you know we’ll be jumping up and down to it.
