In case you’re in a “the world is going to hell in a handbasket” type of mood today, let me offer you some hope.
Today, I was crazy busy running errands. And then it started to snow, which always makes things better, right? I ran into the grocery store for taco fixings for dinner and cupcakes for Miriam’s party, and then raced my way back to my car. It was snowy, slushy, and generally miserable out.
I pulled out of my parking spot right after the Prius next to me pulled out. The Prius stopped almost immediately and the girl in the passenger seat got out, holding a snow scraper. At first I thought “Gee, maybe you should have brushed the snow off your windows before pulling out.” But she went around the car and over…to where an elderly woman was brushing the snow off her car by hand. The young lady said something to the woman, and then started brushing the snow off her car for her as the driver of the Prius moved out of the way so I could get by.
She didn’t have to do it. They could have just driven by the old woman. But they didn’t. They did a genuinely nice thing for no good reason except to make someone’s life a little bit easier.
There is hope for us all yet – especially if we all act like this young woman once in a while.
