According to my nifty new fitness tracker band’s app, I was awake between 4:26 am and 4:31 am this morning. That’s when Maura came stumbling into the room, crawling into my bed, stretching her toes out until they scraped against my legs.
Maura has cold feet. She gets it from me.
What the fitness band’s app didn’t catch was the dang dog who kept wandering into my room as well (because Maura left it open and damned if I was going to get up to shut it). Said dog was feeling itchy, so loudly scratched her ears before giving her head – and all the tags on her collar – a good shake.
Scratch scratch jiiiiingle. Scratch scratch jiiiingle.
At some point, I heard the little tip tap of claws and soon, the tiny wonder hopped into the bed as well. She too was feeling the need to rub her entire body down, which meant rubbing her face fiercely into the bedding next to my knees, then pushing bedding around until I hissed at her.
My alarm still went off at 6:20, but somehow, I didn’t hit snooze. I hit “STAAAAAAAAHP!”
At 7 am, I woke up in a start, and cursed a little, which startled the snoozing dogs. Maura was still blissfully asleep. She did wake up after I flipped on the light, while going “WAKE UP!!! We can’t miss the bus!!!”
My poor girl – as I’ve said before, we’re not morning people. But luckily, she was too not awake to protest much except choice of backpacks, which I resolved quickly (okay, I was searching under sofas for her laptop case when I discovered the other backpack, there was rejoicing.)
7:20 am saw me pushing her out the door just in time to greet the bus pulling up.
I hope she’s woken up by now. Meanwhile, I think today calls for a second cup of coffee.
And that’s how you start off the new week!
